“When I was a kid, I was a liar. Not about important things. If I was bad, when confronted I would eventually own up. But, I would tell stories. Some were such obvious falsehoods, and others were well enough within reason that if my audience was interested, I would develop the story with details. I had been told the story of the boy who cried wolf so much that I could elaborate on it. As I got older, I wanted to be a stand up comedian.
It was in high school that I wanted to write. My first story was a Perry Mason tale. It was pretty bad.
Life got in the way, or I got in my own way. My girlfriend and I got her pregnant. Long story short, we celebrate our 53rd anniversary this April.
I became a Programmer Analyst Hacker. See My article on Hub to see what that really means. I earned an excellent living at it for 40+ years. Unfortunately in the tech industry ageism is alive and well. I was forced into early retirement.
I was reading “The Continental Op” by Dashiell Hammett and in one of the stories there was an aside about a husband who was hiding from his wife.
I thought about that incident and “The Case of the Running Bag” was born and while I was writing that a couple of more ideas were born and the “Jonas Watcher Series was born. It follows the adventures of an ex-MP from WWI as a detective in the 1930’s.
I chose to be a self published author because I am in my 70s and I don’t have the time to wade through first readers. That may sound a little like a I have a superiority complex, I just don’t have the time.
I have written 4 books in the Jonas Watcher Series, I am working on three more and I have another five in the pipeline. I have several projects in the pipeline also. I have started another series named “M’Lady’s Gentleman”. It’s about women spies in the Nineteenth Century England. The book under development is entitled “In Her Majesty’s Service”
I have three more projects “The Dragon’s of Aberdeen”, modern day fantasy; “The Adventures of Booh and Babbott”, graphic novel oriented based upon 40’s team comedies; and “In The Kingdom” an internet cartoon series of a raccoon from Jersey in an African Savanna in a Southern California Wild Animal Park.”
